Public lecture of Mercedes Vera Martin on the topic: The Global Outlook and Its Implications for the Georgian Economy

On May 3, Faculty of Business Management hosted Mercedes Vera Martin – Deputy Division Chief in Division G at the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. The topic of the Public Lecture was: The Global Outlook and Its Implications for the Georgian Economy.

Mercedes Vera Martin is Deputy Division Chief in Division G at the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. She is in charge of the Fund engagement with Georgia since August 2016, after having served as mission chief for The Islamic Republic of Mauritania during 2013–16. Prior to those assignments, she was in charge of the Ecuador team in the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department. During her career at the IMF, she was a senior desk for Peru (a dollarized economy) and focused on emerging market economies (Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Romania, among others) across different departments (International Capital markets, Strategy, Policy and Review, and Western Hemisphere Department). She has worked on multilateral and regional issues, including vulnerability analysis for emerging market economies; exchange rate valuations; development of domestic capital markets; resource wealth management and macro-prudential policies in Latin America. She has a B.Sc. in Economics and Business Administration and a B.Sc. in Law; and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics. She has a Spanish nationality.

The lecture was held in Q&A format and students had the opportunity to get information about interesting issues.
